Giving Closet

You may or may not know this, but I have a big heart for volunteering and good deeds. I used to volunteer at Girls Inc. throughout high school and I did multiple service trips during college, including one to help with Hurricane Katrina cleanup.  I honestly wish I had more time to devote to helping others.  So when I met Sam Russell from Giving Closet, I wanted to share his story and his mission because it truly warmed my heart.

You know what this amazing man does? He uses his styling talents to surprise women in need with a $10,000 revamped closet! Since each woman is different, he works with non-profits and generous brands to personally select a customized work and personal wardrobe.  His goal is really to marry fashion and giving and to remind us that fashion is for everyone! It also gives these women not only a brand new closet, but also a new look on life and an improved self-esteem.

Here you will see his experience with Darlene Pena from Lancaster City, PA. Darlene is a single mother of two who works as a teacher’s aide. Her older daughter has special needs, which has required Darlene to be a care-giver at all hours.  With this in mind, the Giving Closet arranged her surprise at Visage a Visage Salon and provided her with over 23 outfits, tons of accessories, and multiple pairs of shoes for her and her children. She walked away with a handful of designer pieces including Paul Frank, Single Dress by Galina Sobolev, Adrianna Papell, Lockheart, Jellypop, Tsubo and Naya, and New Balance.  While I know there are many good people out in the world, it’s good to know that companies are interested in generosity for good causes as well. And, Sam, keep up the wonderful work!
